The reigning Miss California, who caused a sensation at the Miss USA pageant when she said she believed marriage should be between a man and a woman, will work with the National Organization for Marriage to protect “traditional” heterosexual marriage.
Prejean, who says her stance on gay marriage cost her the Miss USA title, is already starring in a commercial for the anti-same-sex marriage group.
The ad, viewable here, features pageant footage as well as celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who asked Prejean the question that prompted her now-famous reply.
Prejean said on NBC’s Today (video below) that marriage is an issue “very dear to my heart” and said she’s surprised by the uproar surrounding her remarks. “I never thought in a million years that this would be happening.”
Speaking of things close to one’s heart, the Miss California organization has confirmed that it paid for the 21-year-old Prejean to receive breast implants weeks before the national pageant.
