Imbolc / Candlemas — Monday

The NEW ONES are stirring. Feel the vibration of Nature in February.
Everything in potential, teeming underground, sap rising, hibernation ending.
It can be hard to believe, sometimes, that change will come.
Imbolc is Her promise.

In celebration of the life of a Wild Woman....Lynn Marie Johnson

My name is Jackie
Welcome to all you knew Lynn....as you know..........
Lynn was the mother of 5 children who she was very proud of,  each a unique individual and each deeply loved.   She was a sister to 7 and shared many funny stories about growing up in a large family and how that shapes you as a human being. She was a registered nurse, spending over 30 years helping, caring for and impacting the lives of complete strangers.

T/o  her 55 years. Lynn wrestled with her own inner issues, and found alternative ways  to heal and nourish herself.
She became a certified master gardener t/ the MSU extension program and created the most beautiful flower gardens in her own backyard.  When her hands were in the dirt, she was happy. She volunteered for several years as a guide in the LaCasa Tour of Gardens in Brighton  , a local fundraiser supporting a shelter for abused women.
Lynn was a student of Reiki; an avid swimmer and a creative artist .
She was active in AA, and a founding member of the Wild Woman circle.
She was a mother, a grandmother, a lover, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a student,
a teacher, a healer, a healee, a music lover, a dancer,  and a wild womyn …
but more importantly,  Yes, more importantly......
Lynn was a woman who lived ………SHE LIVED.
And Her-Story, victories and defeats alike will be kept sacred… and her memory will be kept alive and real by all who were woven into her life………..

My name is Terri
I'm going to say a very few words about sitting with Lynn in circle leading to this story...
"The first ceremony after she crossed over was taking the clothes she died in and burning them. That's what the elders said to do. Those things were part of her transition and were not to remain.

Now it seemed that everything the old ones said to do at that time made some kind of sacred sense; every act seemed deliberate. Even crying had a purpose. "Cry for YOUR loss", they said. "Do not cry for her. She is spirit now. She is one with the Mystery."
One of the sisters took the nightgown out to the fire that the younger male relatives had started. Everyone else had gathered there, in the backyard of their home. They all stood on the earth, some apart and alone, some in groups. It felt to all of them like the world had stopped, in some way. The air did not stir. The birds did not sing. Only the Sun moved, marking the passing of time.

And the people moved about too, slowly and quietly, until they each found their place in the circle around the fire. Some of them wept; some stared sorrowfully at the flames.

One of her brothers held a plate of tobacco and offered some from person to person. They reached out and took a pinch to hold and pray with.  Once more the words of the elders softly carried from ear to ear, from heart to heart, reminding the people that the mourning was for the loved ones who are left behind, for the loss that each person in that circle was feeling, and not for the woman who had made the Great Change. She is spirit now...she is spirit.

So they spoke words of gratitude and encouragement and reassurance. "Thank you, dear sister." they said. "Thank you, dear friend.  Thank you for the goodness you brought into my life."
And as they squeezed the tobacco in their hands they said, "Be strong in spirit now, sister. You will be missed so much. But everything will be okay..."
Then one by one they placed their prayers with the tobacco into the fire with the burning clothes. While they did this, a man began beating a drum. The he and his wife, who was her dear friend, began singing an old song.

It felt right, the people in the circle thought, to leave this world with song. And the singing felt good to them too.

This singing took the emotions of the people and expressed them through the song. How powerful it all was!  And it felt as though the spirit of the woman who had died was there watching everything. It felt as though her spirit could hear the singing and the prayers in the circle, and could see them singing in the fire and merging with her in the oneness of all things. The presence of her spirit made the people feel good. It comforted them. It consoled them...

O Beautiful End
Peace, my heart,
let the time for the parting be sweet.
Let it not be a death but completeness.
Let love melt into memory and pain into songs.
Let the flight through the sky end
in the folding of the wings over the nest.
Let the last touch of your hands be gentle
like the flower of the night.
Stand still, O Beautiful End,
for a moment,
and say your last words in silence.
I bow to you
and hold up my lamp
to light you on your way.
Rabindranath Tagore, The Gardener

Hello and welcome.  My name is Suzanne
We are The Wild Women. This group, of which Lynn is a founding member, came together 10 years ago.

I have been honored to belong to this group of awesome women for 10 years. They came together as friends to form a circle of woman. Women who would learn  together, search for life's meaning together , celebrate and support one another.

It is an amazing group and Lynn one of its shining stars. I remember when I first started coming to gatherings, Lynn was someone you were drawn to talk to. She was quiet , with a big smile which was welcoming .

As someone who is somewhat craft impaired, Lynn was a wiz. I loved to watch her concentration as she pulled together something beautiful out of sticks and leaves, literally, while I just had a pile of sticks and leaves.
Our group will have a hole in its heart where Lynn was.

My name is Jenny, I want to say that Lynn and I did crafts together and it was always really fun to be around her and observe the beautiful things she could create with her hands, regardless of the medium. She was a quiet but deep woman and her beautiful warm smile will be missed in our group.

Hello,  My name is Rochelle and I’ve had the great pleasure to be a friend of Lynn's.
One of the things Lynn shared with me upon Kelsey’s passing was how important it was for us not go about life without talking about her and I think Lynn would want us to do the same for her.  She also had a tattoo put on her thigh of a lily in remembrance of Kelsey and I recently found a short poem about lilies that Lynn kept.  I don’t know who it was written by, but I feel that it is appropriate for this time of farewell.  It goes like this…

We can’t know why, the Lily has so brief of a time to bloom
in the warmth, of a sunlight’s
kiss upon its face,
before it folds its fragrance in,
and bids the world good night
to rest it’s beauty in a gentler place.
But we know that nothing
that is loved is ever lost,
and no one who has ever touched a heart,
can really pass away,
because some beauty lingers on each memory of which they’ve been a part.
I cannot know where you are going,
but I hold the lamp of my life aloft
to accompany you on your way.

SAFE PASSAGE DEAR SISTER.....
WE ARE LINING YOUR JOURNEY WITH LOVE....
MAY THIS CIRCLE BE OPENED, BUT NEVER BROKEN.
